Hi, my name is Joellen Hosler and I commend you in taking this first step to find a counselor. I believe that to choose to do some therapeutic work is to make a choice for wholeness, a commitment that can enhance your life and all your relationships.
I am a pastoral counselor which means my training has been both in the areas of psychology and theology. I am licensed by the State of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and I am a Presbyterian Minister with a Masters of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. I am a fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Having both the psychological and the theological aspects to my education allows for the spiritual dimension to be acknowledged in our work together if that is important to you. For some of my clients, the spiritual dimension is very important, for others only minimally if at all. I currently see individuals and couples in my office at the St. James Presbyterian Church, at 6554 North Rockwell in the West Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago and at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 2335 N. Orchard Street in the Lincoln Park Neighborhood of Chicago.
My goal is to listen carefully to your concerns and help you in addressing them. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. I offer both counseling and in-depth relational therapy. Together, we can look at long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing life more fully.
People come to me because of feelings of stress or anxiety, feelings of depression, grief, or low self-esteem, discernment during transitional times in their lives, recovery from trauma or abuse, interpersonal relationship difficulties, or marital and pre-marital issues. If this sounds like your situation, I would welcome your call.
Please call or email me for an individual or couples consultation today.
Oh yes, the name, I work for the Limina Institute which is a not for profit group of psychotherapists with offices in Chicago (mine), Gurnee and Bloomington, IL. The word, "Limina" comes from the latin "limen" which means "threshold." Liminal spaces are places set apart where transformation and healing can occur.
